How to Protect Hair From the Sun in Summer

In the summer, sun, humidity, salt and chlorine all come together to dehydrate and cause problems for your hair. At the end of summer, hair often has a dry look and feel, but can also be frizzy, unmanageable and difficult to style. Unfortunately hair damages easily, but repairing is a much harder job.

There are a series of steps that you can take to halt damage and keep hair looking healthy all summer long. Session stylist and Viviscal Ambassador Neil Moodie, is a vogue magazine regular who counts Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne amongst his clients. He had these top tips to share on Summer-proofing your hair this summer.

“Sun and water can be harmful, leading to faded colour, split ends and a brittle, dry texture. Hopping in and out of a chlorine pool can strip colour and treatments right out of the hair and cause it to look dull and dehydrated. It's always best to get a trim before summer. The sun will do extra damage to hair that's already dry, so if you remove those dead ends, you'll be in better shape. Spray some water on your hair before you go into the pool or ocean. It adds an extra layer of coating, so when you go swimming, your hair isn't as likely to absorb 100 percent of the chlorinated water. I also recommend taking Viviscal supplements at any point in the year to minimise damage to the hair caused by seasonal environmental factors.”
